Daddy U.Roy The Originator [1942/2021]

Incroyable chance que d'avoir rencontré Daddy U.Roy il y a bientôt 40 ans lors de son 2ème concert français à La Mutualité en octobre 1981. Arrivé très tôt ce soir là dans l'idée de faire une interview pour Radio-Ivre et l'ayant trouvé seul dans sa loge, j'ai découvert un homme modeste, charmant et touchant à la fois, étonné qu'il était de son succès auprès du public français. 
Je suis heureux de l'avoir accompagné, par la suite, lors de ses séjours parisiens ou croisé sur l'une ou l'autre de ses tournées...
Mais triste de n'avoir pu réaliser, ces dernières années, le projet d'un voyage en Jamaïque qu'il m'incitait à faire depuis longtemps. 

Daddy U.Roy nous a quittés le 17 Février 2021.

Oli i Rembetes • Rebetiko

Rembétika  began as the music of the Greek urban dispossessed – criminals, refugees, drug-users, defiers of social norms. It had existed in some form in Greece and Constantinople since at least the turn of the century, but it is as difficult to define or get to the origins of as jazz or blues –genres with which (tenuous) comparisons are often made, not so much for the music as for its inspirations, themes and tone. Rembétika songs tell of illicit/frustrated love, drug addiction, police oppression, death and their delivery tends to be resignation to the singer's lot, coupled with defiance of authority.

Le rebétiko (ρεμπέτικο), rembetika ou rebétiko tragoúdi (ρεμπέτικο τραγούδι) est une forme de musique populaire grecque apparue dans les années 1920 à la suite des vagues migratoires de populations grecques, juives et arméniennes expulsées d'Asie mineure.

Le développement du rebetiko autour du Pirée, alors banlieue pauvre d'Athènes, fut le fruit de la rencontre entre ces réfugiés de la guerre Greco-Turque et les Grecs, îliens ou continentaux, ayant fui leurs villages dans la même quête d'une vie meilleure.
